Recently, Teneo launched an appeal in support of our partner, SEED Madagascar, inviting employees to convert points earned through our staff reward scheme into direct donations to the charity.
Thanks to this generosity, funds raised are now helping to build the Karinoro School, with construction already well underway.
The new three-classroom school building with attached teacher accommodation is coming along beautifully, with the walls now standing just above window height.
The concrete structure of the female latrine block is now complete. This will include three cubicles and a dedicated room for menstrual hygiene management. The next step is roofing, followed by rendering the interior and exterior walls to a smooth finish, ready for painting. The male latrine block is also well underway, with the underground pit completed and the above-ground walls scheduled to be built throughout February.
Alongside the construction, WASH education has now begun, which is really exciting. At the end of January, SEED’s WASH Officer started lessons on handwashing with all students aged 4 to 14. They have been learning proper handwashing techniques and when it is most important to wash their hands. This will support the effective use of the new handwashing facilities that will soon be installed, supplied with running water from a 10,000-litre rainwater harvesting system.
