How SD-WAN Is Impacting Global WAN Functions

How SD-WAN Impacts WAN Functions

Silver Peak’s recent promotion of a Frost & Sullivan SD-WAN Edge global survey, entitled ‘How SD-WAN Is Impacting Global Enterprise WAN Strategies’ has revealed that SD-WAN is a top technology strategy. The report surveyed the priorities of IT decision makers across 850 companies, from five key industries and, not surprisingly, SD-WAN is named one of top three technology initiatives.

Interestingly, Routers, WAN Optimisation and Security were called out as 3 WAN functions that SD-WAN is impacting.

Most enterprises worldwide are replacing branch routers in phases within the next 24 months with the retail segment indicating a higher preference, and in the US, 69% of enterprises intend to replace their existing routers with SD-WAN.

Global IT decision-makers ranked integrated WAN Optimisation as their number 3 reason to select an SD-WAN vendor with 80% of the technology sector preferring an integrated solution. In the US, 67% of IT decision-makers want their WAN Optimisation integrated with SD-WAN.

And when it comes to security, companies with less than 50 sites preferred cloud-based security gateways, whereas companies with over 500 sites preferred centralised traffic inspection. 62% of US respondents plan to replace CPE-based security appliances with Cloud-based and SD-WAN.
