Teneo research shows more organisations planning server consolidation as recession bites

Published on: 24 November 2008

Teneo, a leading infrastructure optimisation specialist, has conducted a survey of visitors to its exhibition stand at IP’08 and attendees at its recent seminars held in London and Manchester, exploring the issues currently affecting network managers working across a range of organisations.

The survey was conducted at the recent IP’08 exhibition (Earl’s Court, London) – Europe’s leading IP and convergence event and at two Teneo seminars held in late October, where Teneo teamed up with its partners Riverbed and Infoblox to show how integrated solutions from these two vendors can help network managers consolidate network services and improve application performance.

The survey results show that around 75% of network managers are planning to undergo server consolidation activity in their organisations during the next 12 months. Establishing robust processes for server and data backup is also on the agenda for network managers with 50% of respondents looking to move their backup provision into data centres.

Despite the downturn, 60% of respondents have found themselves compelled to pay more for their bandwidth provision than they were a year ago. Demands for extra bandwidth show no signs of receding with 63% of respondents planning to further increase the bandwidth provision for their organisation during the first six months of 2009.

The survey also revealed the need for network managers to provide end users with a quality network experience and to improve the effectiveness of the networks that they manage, with 87% of managers tasked with accelerating application delivery to end user PCs, and around 60% of respondents required to deliver increased data transfer speeds between office LANs.

Flexible working is high on the agenda for most organisations: around 60% of network managers surveyed said that they had to meet the network demands of increasingly mobile workforce who are frequently travelling between different offices or working from home.

James Hall, marketing director, Teneo, commented:
“The results demonstrate that network managers like most managers today are being asked to reduce costs through server consolidation. Bandwidth costs are also a prime candidate for reduction in this current climate. The solutions we deliver for our customers help to not only reduce cost and consolidate operations, but also deliver improved effectiveness for end users with higher network speeds and improved application delivery.”
