Teneo helps Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust monitor IT network across 150 sites

Published on: 01 April 2008

Teneo, a leading specialist application performance management solutions provider, has delivered a network management solution from leading vendor Castle Rock to monitor a 150 site network across Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust properties.

Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust is the largest NHS Trust in Wales and one of the largest in the UK with an immediate catchment area of 500,000 people living in Cardiff and across the Vale of Glamorgan. It employs 13,500 staff across 150 sites including nine hospitals and provides over 7000 network points. The Trust required a reliable, high performance network management solution that was scalable and suitable for a large distributed architecture across its 150 sites, as it found that its existing Cisco Works Platform solution was not coping well with the Trust’s growing requirements.

The Trust predominately uses Cisco networking equipment and Cisco recommended using Castle Rock SMNPc Enterprise and suggested Teneo as a solutions provider. Castle Rock SNMPc Enterprise is a secure distributed network management system which delivers real-time network monitoring, allowing users to visualise and pro-actively monitor networks. Using distributed polling agent architecture, it can monitor from hundreds to tens of thousands of network devices. Users are able to access its web based dashboard consoles from any networked PC.

Teneo conducted an initial trial of Castle Rock SNMPc Enterprise with the Trust, and the solution was deemed invaluable. Immediate benefits included trend analysis reports and real-time network mapping which can provide early warnings to potential problems.

Andy Page, network manager at Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust commented:
"One of the key benefits with using SNMPc is how it enables us to increase efficiency. If a red light shows on the SNMPc screen we can get out to it straight away and sort out faults immediately. Our network is crucial, for example we send the data results of over a million blood samples per year. SNMPc has become an integral part of the smooth running of the Trust’s network."

James Hall, head of marketing and operations, Teneo Limited, summed up:
"Our association with Castle Rock goes back a long way and whenever we have installed a SNMPc solution it becomes the critical nerve centre for the network which customers really rely on. It pinpoints problems on the network and simply by looking at the network map, users can quickly see where there are issues, so they can concentrate their efforts on where it is needed most."
