Software Agent for Application Traffic Visibility and Packet Capture is a cost effective alternative to hardware probes

Teneo, the specialist provider of network management and application performance optimisation solutions, has launched its latest network management solution - TeVISTA for SNMPc, developed jointly by Chevin and Castle Rock Computing. The solution is available exclusively through Teneo and its resellers in the UK.

Chevin has extended the capabilities of Castle Rock Computing's SNMPc to offer application traffic visibility and packet capture from any server, workstation or network segment. The TeVISTA for SNMPc plug-in module builds on the functionality provided by SNMPc extending the core detail of what is happening on the network, how busy the network is and where problems are with additional information including: Full conversation, utilisation, error and protocol details, which can be viewed for any host, network segment, or Internet/WAN connection. This is achieved using TeVISTA's unique Software Visibility Agent.

TeVista Visibility Agents (TVA) are deployed directly onto workstations and servers on the network. The TVA acts like a Distributed Probe, providing application traffic visibility and packet capture so Expert Analysis can be used to investigate both local and remote problems. The software-based TVAs give significant cost savings compared to traditional hardware probes and also enable wider deployment. The TVA can store historical information on the agent, which means that problems can be addressed and resolved retrospectively. This feature can be extremely useful for intrusion detection. For example if a network has been attacked by a virus, looking at the software agent on an individual PC will reveal where the virus initially hit can be identified and dealt with accordingly.

TeVista for SNMPc includes a protocol analyser that offers expert diagnostics and frame decoding in real time, during capture. This shows a detailed overview of all network activity related to the segment of the PC or Server with the agent on it, revealing exactly what is happening on the network that may be affecting reliability or speed of performance.
